چکیده

This paper describes a new method for inducing logic programs from examples which attempts to integrate the best aspects of existing ILP methods into a single coherent framework. In particular, it combines a bottomup method similar to Golem with a topdown method similar to Foil. It also includes a method for predicate invention similar to Champ and an elegant solution to the \noisy oracle" problem which allows the system to learn recursive programs without requiring a complete set of positive examples. Systematic experimental comparisons to both Golem and Foil on a range of problems are used to clearly demonstrate the advantages of the approach.

Top-down induction of logical decision trees

Top-down induction of decison trees (TDIDT) is a very popular machine learning technique. Up till now, it has mainly used for propositional learning, but seldomly for relational learning or inductive logic programming. The main contribution of this paper is the introduction of logic decision trees, which make it possible to use TDIDT in inductive logic programming. An implementation of this top...

Learning Discriminant Rules as a Minimal Saturation Search

It is well known that for certain relational learning problems, traditional top-down search falls into blind search. Recent works in Inductive Logic Programming about phase transition and crossing plateau show that no general solution can face to all these difficulties. In this context, we introduce the notion of ”minimal saturation” to build non-blind refinments of hypotheses in a bottom-up ap...

Learning Multiple

We present an approach for solving some of the problems of top-down Inductive Logic Programming systems when learning multiple predicates. The approach is based on an algorithm for learning abduc-tive logic programs. Abduction is used to generate additional information that is useful for solving the problem of global inconsistency when learning multiple predicates.

The Effect of Bottom-up/Top- down Techniques on Lower vs. Upper -Intermediate EFL Learners’ Listening Comprehension

Listening is regarded as an interactive process involving decoding of information. This study was launched to find out the impact of bottom-up (BU) and top-down (TD) techniques on Iranian lower and upper intermediate learners’ listening comprehension. We selected a total of 120 participants in six intact classes, three lower intermediate and three upper intermediate. The proficiency level of th...

Top-Down Induction of Clustering Trees

An approach to clustering is presented that adapts the basic top-down induction of decision trees method towards clustering. To this aim, it employs the principles of instance based learning. The resulting methodology is implemented in the TIC (Top down Induction of Clustering trees) system for first order clustering. The TIC system employs the first order logical decision tree representation o...
